Teddy Bear’s Picnic

If you go down to the woods today, you’re sure of a big surprise – because it’s Teddy Bears’ Picnic Day!

Everyone, young or old, has a favourite teddy bear.  And, on 10 July, we get to celebrate our furry friends by treating them to a lovely picnic.  In 1907 American composer, John Walter Bratton, even wrote a song called The Teddy Bears’ Picnic with lyrics added by Irish songwriter Jimmy Kennedy.

Every time I hear that song, it reminds me so much of being a little girl and my beautiful teddy called Edward – not a very original name, I know!  But, did you know that the original Teddy was actually named after American President, Theodore Roosevelt in the early 1900s?

So, where will you take your favourite bear on Teddy Bears’ Picnic Day?  Whether you plan to take them on a woodland adventure, a trip to the park or peanut butter sandwiches at home, we know that every teddy bear who’s been good is sure of a treat today!
