Easter is one of our favourite times of the year at Bathing Bunnies! It’s when our long-eared, fluffy friend, the Easter Bunny, takes centre stage in celebrations across the land and excited children look forward to chocolate treats and Easter egg hunts. It’s also a time when we can celebrate the end of winter and new beginnings.
But why rabbits at Easter? This year I decided to do some digging to learn more about the history of the cute and cuddly Easter Bunny.
I discovered that the tradition is shrouded in folklore, myth and mystery with tales of pagan goddesses and egg-laying hares! However, it seems most likely to have German origins with traditional stories of rabbits bringing baskets of brightly painted eggs for children at Easter. Interestingly, I also found out that in Switzerland, Easter eggs are delivered by a cuckoo and in Australia by a small rodent called a Bilby!
While we will be celebrating all things bunny, how will you be celebrating your Easter this year?
